Sworn and certified translations for use in Spain
English-speaking clients often ask for a “certified translation”. In Spain, when an authority requires an official translation of a foreign-language document, the appropriate service may be a sworn translation completed by a translator authorised for the relevant language combination.
Spanish sworn translators certify the fidelity and accuracy of their work in accordance with the applicable rules. Sworn translations can be used before Spanish judicial and administrative bodies. Electronic signature is also regulated for sworn translators in Spain, although the receiving organisation may still specify how it wants the document submitted.
Typical requests include birth and marriage certificates, criminal record certificates, university degrees, academic transcripts, court documents, powers of attorney, deeds, medical certificates and other official records.

English and Spanish translation
English is one of the most frequently requested language combinations in Alicante. We translate between English and Spanish for business, legal, academic, technical and personal purposes. The destination matters: a document prepared for a Spanish authority has different requirements from marketing copy for a UK audience or technical material intended for an international team.

Local translation support

You do not need to live in Alicante city to request a quotation. Documents can normally be sent by email in PDF or another readable format. If a physical original is required at the end of the process, we can discuss delivery when the scope is confirmed.
How to request a quote
Send us the complete document, or a representative sample for a larger project, and tell us the source language, target language, intended use and deadline. For sworn translations, it is helpful to know which authority, notary, university, court or other organisation will receive the document.
We review the material before confirming price and timing. This avoids quoting solely by page count when a document contains seals, handwritten notes, tables, stamps or complex formatting.

Frequently asked questions
Can I arrange a translation without visiting the Alicante office?
Yes. Most projects can be handled online. Send us a clear digital copy and we will review the documents before confirming the quotation. If the final document has to be delivered physically, we will agree the delivery method separately.
What is the difference between a certified translation and a sworn translation in Spain?
“Certified translation” is a broad English term. For documents that need official status before Spanish authorities, a sworn translation by a translator authorised for the relevant language combination is often the required service. The receiving body should always determine what it accepts.
Do you translate both from English into Spanish and from Spanish into English?
Yes, subject to the availability of the appropriate professional for the subject and direction. Legal, technical, medical and commercial work is assigned according to both language and specialist content.
Can you handle urgent translations?
We can assess urgent deadlines depending on the language, volume, format and professional availability. Send the complete files and state the exact deadline so that we can tell you what is realistic before the project starts.
Do you also provide interpreting in Alicante?
Yes, we can arrange consecutive, simultaneous or liaison interpreting depending on the language, date, location and availability. For an interpreting quote we need the date, timetable, venue, subject matter and expected number of participants.
